Hou Fushen (Hou Fushen), Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the China Society of Automotive Engineers, expressed the view on the 3rd at a press conference for the 33rd China SAE Congress & Exhibition (SAECCE2026) and Automotive Innovation Technology Exhibition (AITX) held in Beijing, that 'by 2030, the proportion of New Energy Vehicles in new passenger car sales will exceed 70%.'
The period of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) will be a crucial period for China's automotive industry to transform from scale expansion to comprehensive high-quality development. Vice Chairman Hou stated, 'In the next five years, China's automotive industry will enter a new phase of electrification, smartification, and internationalization.'
Vice Chairman Hou expressed the view that China will become a place where global automotive cutting-edge technological innovation originates, and an important market for large-scale verification and pioneering introduction of new technologies and new models. In terms of sales volume, the driving effect of overseas markets will become more prominent, and by 2030, overseas automobile sales are expected to approach 10 million units, with approximately 40% of these originating from local production and sales networks abroad.
Vice Chairman Hou emphasized, 'The development of automotive technology is now entering a difficult stage that no one has ever stepped into, and the importance of original, forward-looking, and disruptive innovation has become more prominent than ever before. Original innovation capabilities in basic research and advanced technology will be the most crucial point in industrial scientific and technological innovation over the next five years, and accurately grasping the future direction of advanced technologies will be an important prerequisite for the industry to carry out high-level scientific and technological innovation.'
