The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announced on June 2nd that conditions for the occurrence of the El Niño phenomenon are forming in the tropical Pacific region, and considering that the seawater in the tropical Pacific is unusually warm, among other factors, the probability of the El Niño phenomenon occurring from June to August this year is 80%, and the risk of extreme weather occurring in the coming months is increasing.
According to WMO Secretary-General Saulo, the scope of the El Niño phenomenon's impact extends far beyond its origin in the Pacific, affecting agriculture, energy supply, trade, water resources, supply chains, and livelihoods across the entire region.
