An incident occurred at a tourist spot in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, where a humanoid robot performing kicked a male child spectator in the abdomen. Chinese media outlet Dahe Daily reported on the 3rd.
According to the article, the incident happened on the 1st. During a performance held at the scene, a humanoid robot demonstrating martial arts movements unleashed a roundhouse kick, and the robot's foot directly hit the abdomen of a 3-4 year old boy who was watching nearby. The boy clutched his abdomen and hunched over in pain on the spot.
The boy's mother said, "The robot was operated by the person in charge of the tourist spot, and even after the accident, no staff member at the scene offered a word or assistance. Another child's guardian who was nearby provided evidence (a video). Otherwise, the other party probably wouldn't have even admitted that an accident occurred."
Chinese netizens raised comments such as: "Looks painful...", "That's a pretty heavy blow. At the very least, an apology is mandatory.", "There's a problem with the staff.", "Should sue!", "Ridiculous technology.", and "A robot kicks a spectator during a performance. Can those self-driving cars running around really be trusted?"
On the other hand, comments were also received such as: "The spectators are too close.", "It's certainly a problem, but the child entered the robot's range of motion.", "The guardian failed to fulfill their supervisory responsibility.", and "He probably got what he deserved. Everyone else was keeping their distance, but only that child came forward. The robot merely educated a child whose parents failed to discipline them." (Translation and editing by Kitada)
